This one is going blow a few minds. Back in 1988 – yep, in the time before the internet and email, you had to actually send letters to people through the mail. I set up a pen pal service for freestylers around the world. It got mentioned in Thrasher AND Transworld. I’d go down to the mailbox and collect hundreds of letters from freestylers around the world. I think this was my earliest attempt to help a group stat communicating with each other. It laid the foundation for future publishing efforts.
Michael Brooke is an author, skater, publisher and one of the biggest advocates of longboarding. Born in 1964 in Leeds, England he moved to Canada in 1972 and has made it his home.
He is the author of Best Selling book ‘The Concrete Wave: The History of Skateboarding‘ and the founder/publisher/editor of Concrete Wave, the magazine.
